The advent of technology and it's surge, especially in this turn of the century, shifted the educational goal post from mastery-based to skill-based. Today's learners need skills and not subject mastery. In an effort to meet up with learners' demands, teachers have ended up helping themselves develop lifetime skills.

Technology has broken every racial and cultural boundaries, while bringing together the citizens of the world into one digital community. Teachers are now being exposed to globally-acceptable values through this cross-cultural interactions.

It does not matter where one is operating from, every teacher now has the opportunity to interact with peers across the globe.

One of the greatest good technology integration has done to our education is speeding up work, thereby lifting a big burden off the teachers' shoulders.

Over the years, the question of high level productivity has been hampered by overwork, as teachers has been overtly engrossed with so many activities that dissipates energy, consumes time and then leave the teacher 'empty' at last.

Technology, in its quest for child-centred learning, has assisted in relieving the teacher of some of such burdens, there providing the average teacher the ample time to focus on more productive assignment as a professional.

Shared Values

With the cross-cultural interactions comes shared values. Today, every teacher (even those operating from the remotest part of the world) can easily get every information needed for professional engagement and survival, by a simple push of a button.

There are unrestricted access to millions of digital contents that can be of great help to teachers across the globe. That's technology at work!

Distant Learning

In time past, it was very difficult for teachers to get advanced degrees while still teaching. The reason being that their employers would hardly allow them do that because of the time involved. Secondly, the cost of pursuing such higher degrees was never supported by poor remuneration system many teachers are serving under.

But today, a lot has changed. The average teacher does not need to quit his regular job to acquire a higher degree. From the comfort of one's home, one can study from anywhere in the world. As a teacher, you can still be in Nigeria, while studying at a university in Liverpool. Technology provided this leverage for distant learning.

Besides, you don't need to break bank to acquire such higher degrees again, as most of them are free or at worst, go for the price of a coffee.

Teachers should leverage technology to improve their lot in professional and personal development. It would be tantamount to shooting oneself in the foot, refusing to run with technology.
